Through a discussion on the Thailand–Cambodia conflict, lecturers from the International Relations Department of Parahyangan Catholic University invite us to examine how Association of Southeast Asian Nations plays a role in maintaining communication among states, easing tensions, and preserving stability in the Southeast Asian region. The discussion raises an important question, particularly for IR students: is ASEAN’s relatively cautious and diplomacy based approach still effective in responding to the evolving dynamics of the region, or does ASEAN need to further adapt in order to remain relevant?
