1. Parahyangan Center for International Studies (PACIS)
Parahyangan Center for International Studies (PACIS) was founded as an academic and policy research center within the Department of International Relations at Parahyangan Catholic University in April 1997. Since its establishment, PACIS has established extensive partnerships with the Indonesian government and international institutions in conducting joint research and publication, community services and organizing seminars and conferences.
The area of research interest reflects both the expertise of the lecturers of the Department of IR and the interests of partners who need support from PACIS in responding to the most recent development in global politics and economy. PACIS is very grateful for having lecturers who have strong commitment to develop their expertise that are highly relevant with current international affairs.
PACIS has actively supported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in enhancing Indonesia’s performance in diplomacy as well as its leadership role in various international forums. In the late 1990s, PACIS conducted research on human right diplomacy and economic diplomacy in collaboration with the Ministry. In 2009, PACIS conducted research on the idea of the reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to explore opportunities for Indonesia to contribute more actively in the world’s most strategic institution in the creation and maintenance of sustaining global peace and security. In 2017 and 2018, PACIS conducted other research on the UNSC to support Indonesia’s position as a non-permanent member in the UNSC (2019-2020). Other topics of research conducted in collaboration with the MoFA are Indonesia’s economic cooperation agreements with other countries (2017), the role of Indonesia in G20 (2021), and Soft-power Diplomacy (2021).
Researchers of PACIS has also developed collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry of Politics, Law and Security, the Coordinating Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Investment. In doing so, we have provided policy recommendations based on relevant policy research.
In terms of collaboration with international universities, PACIS has developed partnerships with the University of Leeds, University of Giessen, and TU Dortmund in promoting exchanges of lectures and students, as well as conducting joint research and publication. PACIS is supported by lecturers of the Department of International Relations, UNPAR, who have expertise on various area including security studies, international political economy, international organization and regimes, and diplomacy. These lecturers have graduated from reputable national and international universities.

2. Parahyangan Center for European Studies (PACES)
Parahyangan Centre of European Studies (PACES), founded in 2006, is a study Centre focused on European issues. The Centre is integrated to the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung, Indonesia.
The purpose of establishment is to develop European study, to provide greater understanding on Europe, policy making, and to implement the research in government and public activities.
As a research and study centre, PACES supported by researchers, under various disciplines. They graduated from reputable universities nationally and internationally. PACES has collaborated with government and non-government institutions, both at national and international level.
Four main objectives of PACES:
- To promote research and teaching activities on European and Asian topics through an interdisciplinary approach involving resources available at various faculties and/or departments at the Parahyangan Catholic University
- To facilitate “people-to-people” interactions (the corporate sector, non-governmental organizations, party members, religious leaders, local authorities, and so forth) of Indonesia and members of the European Union (EU)
- To encourage collaborative works of Indonesian and European academics and/or researchers in the forms of seminars, conferences, workshops, and joint-publications
- To participate in the network of European studies centers in Asia and beyond
