Negotiation and Diplomacy Training by UNPAR IR and SMAK BPK Kota Baru Parahyangan

Bandung, October 8, 2025 – Lecturers from the International Relations Study Program at UNPAR, Dr. rer. pol. Albert Triwibowo, Jessica Marta, S.IP., M.I.Pol., and Ratih Indraswari, Ph.D., conducted a community service activity through a negotiation and diplomacy training for 34 students of grades 10 and 11 at SMAK BPK Penabur Kota Baru Parahyangan. The training aimed to introduce diplomacy and negotiation skills as essential competencies in cross-interest communication, both in professional settings and daily life.

The activity was divided into two sessions. The first session began with a presentation on the basic theories of negotiation and diplomacy, covering definitions, diplomatic instruments, the importance of negotiation, as well as strategies and principles of effective negotiation. Following the presentation, students participated in a role-play simulation as sellers and buyers, where they were required to reach mutually beneficial agreements.

In the second session, participants were divided into several groups to negotiate directly in more complex scenarios. Each group applied the diplomacy and negotiation principles they had learned to achieve joint decisions through dialogue and compromise.

The activity concluded with a reflection session, during which students shared their perspectives on how negotiation and diplomacy skills are relevant to everyday activities, from decision-making to conflict resolution.

Through this activity, the UNPAR IR lecturers hope that the negotiation and diplomacy training will encourage students to develop critical thinking, effective communication, and empathy in social interactions.
