Kuala Lumpur, 4 September 2025 – The Student Study Group for International Affairs (KSMPMI) of Universitas Katolik Parahyangan conducted a student excursion to Malaysia from 2–4 September 2025. The activity was accompanied by a lecturer from the International Relations Study Program, Marshell Adi Putra, S.IP., M.A., and participated in by 57 UNPAR IR students.
On the first day, the group began the program with a visit to The Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (INSAP), a think tank focused on strategic policy studies. The event was held at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), where participants were welcomed by TAR UMT President, Prof. Dato’ Indera Ir. Dr. Lee Sze Wei, and INSAP Chairman, Datuk Dr. Pamela Yong. The program continued with presentations by Dr. Cynthia Chan (TAR UMT) and Prof. Dr. Adam Leong (National Defence University of Malaysia) on the theme “Beyond Borders: Navigating ASEAN Geopolitical Challenges.”
The second day featured a visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur. The group was welcomed by the Deputy Chief of Mission of KBRI Kuala Lumpur, Danang Waskito, along with the embassy staff. During the visit, students received briefings from KBRI Kuala Lumpur on Indonesia-Malaysia relations and the activities carried out by the embassy.
The program concluded on the third day with a visit to the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), a research and training institution under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. Conducted in a roundtable discussion format at Rebung Restaurant, students were welcomed by Dato Westmoreland Palon, Director of the Competency Enhancement Centre (CEC) IDFR. Participants also had the opportunity to engage in direct discussions with IDFR directors and sample traditional Malaysian cuisine.
Through this series of visits, the Malaysia excursion is expected to broaden UNPAR IR students’ understanding of diplomatic practices, bilateral relations, and the role of strategic institutions in regional international relations dynamics.
