The Hague, the Netherlands – Aknolt Kristian Pakpahan, a lecturer in the International Relations Study Program at Parahyangan Catholic University (HI UNPAR), spoke at the Summer School Series: Social Cohesion and Public Policy in Central Asia and the Caucasus on September 25, 2026, in The Hague, the Netherlands.
During the forum, Aknolt presented a paper titled “Finding the Glue of Social Cohesion and Corporate Social Responsibility: Lessons Learned from Indonesia,” which explored the relationship between social cohesion and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) based on Indonesia’s experience.
Aknolt highlighted the importance of local values, such as gotong royong (mutual cooperation), musyawarah (deliberation), kekeluargaan (familial solidarity), and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), in strengthening social cohesion. He emphasized that CSR should not be understood merely as the provision of aid, but should be realized through corporate accountability for the impacts of business activities and community involvement in decision-making processes.
Furthermore, CSR can serve as a social bridge when it helps build trust, promote inclusion, and strengthen collaboration between companies and communities. Indonesia’s experience demonstrates that effective CSR is not simply measured by the scale of corporate contributions, but by its ability to strengthen relationships and cooperation with communities.
This participation reflects the contribution of HI UNPAR lecturers to expanding international knowledge exchange and bringing Indonesia’s perspectives to discussions on public policy and social cohesion.
